Why writing more persuasively will help you get the outcome you want

When you communicate in writing - most commonly in emails these days - do you ever stop part way through composing what you're saying to consider if you are coming at it in the best possible way?

Taking a minute to stop and think about what you are writing and why, and who you are communicating with in our opinion is a quick-win when it comes to getting the outcome you are seeking.

It is important to think about how your words will be received by the recipient. When we are not talking face to face or even on the phone it is easier for our words to be misconstrued - even to the point where your message can sound confrontational when that was absolutely not the intention.

Why does any of this matter?

We all know that the viewpoints and claims of both sub-contractors and contractors are routinely challenged in every contract and, when disagreements happen, they can easily elevate into full scale disputes. Disputes are costly to resolve financially and personally with the potential to damage relationships and jeopardise the chance of future work.

You can make a big difference to a situation simply by improving your writing- it could be the difference between wasting your time and getting a result.

Work smarter and more profitably

Improving communication in contracts is just one of the ways contractors and sub-contractors can work more efficiently and ultimately ensure they get paid in line with their expectations.

Through the services that Quantum Group provides, we can assist in numerous other ways by managing all aspects of the contract's administration - in the same way you can outsource your accounts to an accountant. We can take away many of those tasks that regularly drop down the priority list but end up costing you money!

Quantum CPM can work with you before you even agree to work on a project through our contract vetting service, and assist further pre-construction with our estimating and procurement support. We can then work with you to ensure claims and extension requests are submitted on time and in line with the contract, before helping to ensure you are properly compensated at the end with assistance preparing final accounts and managing retentions.
