Take care to take notice of your contract's notice provisions

You might not realise it, but your contract may well include very specific 'notice procedures' - if you don't know what they are, you should as they could cost you dearly!

If you are entering into any contract you need to understand the notice procedures it includes. Most importantly, what notices are to be submitted, when and how. Knowing them could be the difference between making or breaking a successful project, so take time to understand them.

Need to claim for variations?

No project will go 100% to plan so 'variations' are pretty routine. Notice know-how is particularly important when it comes to claiming for the effects of variations - also referred to as changes.

These are any alterations to the scope of work originally specified in the contract and could include:

  • Alterations to the design
  • Alterations to quantities
  • Alterations to quality

Contracts will usually state what the process is for claiming for variations and you must adhere to this.

Simply put, without giving the proper notices for a variation you may lose the right to be compensated in time and money.

Reduce the risk with a Monthly Variations Audit

We will help to ensure you can claim for any changes by making sure everyone responsible knows the procedures to follow so you get paid.

We do this by reviewing your contract at the outset and then auditing this every month as the project unfolds. This Monthly Variations Audit will help you achieve more complete accounts throughout the contract and avoid potentially costly disputes. It will flag up any common contentious areas such as instructions which are denied as variations.

We can quote lump sum fee arrangements so that you know exactly how much this service will routinely cost.

Part of our Routine Package Services

Our Monthly Variations Audit service is part of Quantum CPM's bundle of routine package services. This is formed of seven services that provide end-to-end support, starting with Contract Vetting and wrapping up with a Retention Fund Management service.

Through this complete support package, we help Sub-Contractors to avoid the pitfalls of a contract by ensuring they understand what they are signing up for and the processes in place to manage the contract. It is ideal for most Sub-Contractors who want to protect themselves before, during and on completion of the contract.
