Don't fear the contract challenge!

Having worked extensively with clients at all points in the construction supply chain for 25 years, Quantum CPM is urging subcontractors to ensure their latest contracts are properly vetted - a move that could actually help them win more work.

Quantum CPM (Cost and Project Management) offers a specialist Contract Vetting service to subcontractors as part of a complete range of professional services that are vital to the success of any construction project. These professional services range from the measurement and valuation of construction work, to administering contractual terms, appraisal and reporting of the progress of works for application for payment.

"You're in with the chance of a fantastic and potentially lucrative contract... so the last thing you would want to do is jeopardise things at the last minute," says Stephen Pilling, Director of Quantum CPM. "But what about the contract? Have you read it, and what if you don't like the look of something?"

"Contrary to what many of our subcontractor clients used to think, challenging a contract's terms does not reduce your chances of winning a contract. In fact, we find that contractors often welcome the fact that their specialist subcontractor is positively engaging with the project needs and taking time to read what the contractual machinery is. That means there is more chance of winning future work."

Quantum CPM's Contract Vetting service is designed to help subcontractors run things smoothly from the off and avoid costly disputes. The key aims are to help ensure contracts are administered properly, so subcontractors can get paid, their account can be agreed, and they are able to make a profit. Accessing the service is easy with a free initial consultation with no obligation, at which point a fixed price is quoted to vet the contract and uncover any hidden nasties.

Stephen continues, "Occasionally things go sour with contracts for all sorts of reasons and the construction industry can seem like a tough place to do business - and things can get worse when the economic climate gets harsher. However, by reviewing a contract, we can explain your obligations, ensure your contract runs smoother and even help you deal with a particularly difficult contractor."
